New Zealand Tourist Driving Quiz

New Zealand Tourist Driving Quiz - Driving in New Zealand can be very different to driving at home. For starters, we drive on the left-hand side of the road, some of our roads can be quite narrow and windy, and they may even have loose gravel.  Driving distances may appear shorter on a map than they really are, so be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination, while factoring in time to stop and enjoy the sights along the way. Check out Tourism New Zealand's  " New Zealand Tourist Driving Quiz " -  it's a great resource to check out before starting your Pacific Horizon motorhome holiday.  It's available in five languages - English, German, French, Spanish & Chinese, and highlights some of the unique characteristics of our roads, our essential Road Code rules, and our different driving conditions.

Where to Stay - Freedom Camping

Freedom Camping - Freedom Camping is the perfect way to make the most of your New Zealand motorhome holiday, and it’s the perfect way to really make the most of the natural beauty and spacious freedom that New Zealand offers.  It means you can truly enjoy the scenic wonders from the comfort of your motorhome, in real peace and independence. But before you decide to just pull up on the side of the road for the night anywhere you fancy, there are a few considerations and restrictions that you need to be aware of in New Zealand.  Unfortunately a few reckless travellers, often in low-cost campervans or cars without onboard toilet or water storage facilities, have in the past ruined it for the more responsible motorhome holiday-goers by dumping their waste (both toilet waste as well as general litter) on the side of the road. This has led to the New Zealand government putting in place local authority legislation for Freedom Camping whereby local councils can prohibit freedom camping in specific areas and can issue instant fines of NZ$200 for any person camping in an area where there is a ‘No Camping’ sign or where campers dispose of waste inappropriately.

Where to Stay - NZ Holiday Parks

NZ Holiday Parks - New Zealand boasts a wide selection of commercially operated Holiday Parks, with fully integrated accommodation options from motels and self contained units through to cabins and powered sites suitable for motorhomes. Most Holiday Parks are located in spacious, park-like settings and are suitable for either couples or families, providing good quality amenities including mains power hook up, internet, and shared kitchen and laundry facilities.  Many also offer recreational facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, children’s playgrounds, and BBQ areas. We recommend you plug in your Pacific Horizon motorhome to 240v mains power every 2-3 nights to power up the motorhome batteries.  In this way, it’s good to know in advance where the Holiday Parks are located and consider alternating Freedom Camping with Holiday Park ‘sleep-overs’ every few days.
